Can Fingerprints Be Hacked with a Photo?

Many of you who have iPhones also may use their fingerprint scanning technology to unlock your phone.

Now, a hacker says there could be a way to copy your fingerprint, using a picture.

Jan Krissler, a member of the European hacker group "The Chaos Computer Club" announced he developed a way to take a picture of a fingerprint, from as far away as nine feet, and make a copy of the print to unlock phones and other devices that use as a password.

Even though this worries some people, experts say fingerprints are still more secure than regular passwords.

"Even though people are going to develop ways to hack fingerprint scanners, this doesn't negate their effectiveness. Just like people find ways to hack into passwords, they're going to find ways to hack into fingerprints. But in many ways, this system is still more secure than a traditional password," said Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, Communication Studies Professor at West Virginia University USA.

If you use a password, experts say you can also use a password on some devices as another form of security as well.
